Return to the Daily Grind
Well, it has been an insanely productive and pleasant four-day weekend!
Here's a recap just for fun.
Thursday: Went to doctor. Went to eye doctor so my glasses could be made less crooked. Went to the Container Store. Had insanely yummy sushi for lunch (yum!) I think that was about it...? Oh, and food shopping.
Friday: Haircut. Joann Fabrics for pastels and watercolors. Macy's for a skirt, sweater, cardigan. Home, for laundry and carpet cleaning and also a bunch of playing with the new pastels. (Have yet to try out the watercolors). Starbucks for a writing session.
Saturday: Went to Mom's, had lunch. Bought a car. Went to Petsmart for puppy food. Stayed overnight.
Ah, and now we're up to today.
So, if I may backtrack momentarily, in case you missed my pulse on the subject and were confused, yes, I bought a car. I bought a Denim Blue 2013 Chevy Spark 1LT. Unfortunately, it's in Staten Island, so I'm not actually going to be getting the car until Tuesday or Wednesday. Probably Wednesday. Turns out that the Jalapeno Base Model I test drove on Labor Day was sold not long after that. Originally they had 15 Sparks on the lot, now there were only 3. The showroom model was Denim Blue, but the higher, more expensive model, and the other Denim one was a stick which I'd rather not learn to drive stick on my brand-new car, thankyouverymuch.
[insert uncles/aunts/father/random individuals' comments: "Oh, you could learn, it's not that hard." Repeat: no, thankyouverymuch, I'll stick with the automatic, easy.]
So on Tuesday or Wednesday or whatever day it is that they say it's ready I will hopefully be able to leave work a bit early (fat chance of that on Wednesday but anywho) and then drive directly there from work.
[pause here to insert suppressed squee of delight - gah I want it now. :P :)]
Anyway, on to today.
So Brother and I set out this morning at around 10 AM, which was actually the time I wanted to leave. We went first for some caffeine because it was 10 AM and I was tired. :P
Then we went to the apartment and I used my laundry cart to take everything out of the car that didn't absolutely need to be in the car and bring it to the apartment. This took two trips. I'm not even sure what most of it was. Oh, my old laptop which doesn't work but I don't want to throw away, a space heater, a trumpet that I don't play but don't want to throw away and there was no real urgency to bring inside after the last move, a tambourine (repeat comment about the trumpet, although I could probably play a tambourine better than a trumpet), and I don't know what the rest of it was. And a 28 pound box of cat litter that was on sale so I bought on Thursday but did not want to carry into the apartment because it was very heavy. Seriously, the CAT only weighs ten pounds, and I already have a full box, but it was a great deal and it's not like it expires.
The stuff I wanted to keep in the car, like the survival kit one of my cousins gave me for Christmas a few years ago (which has a rope and jumper cables and some other stuff) and some extra windshield washer fluid, the GPS which I hardly ever use because I usually know where I'm going, a few ice scrapers, an umbrella, a box of tissues, and I don't know what else, all that stayed in the car in one convenient plastic milk crate. Except the long-handled ice/snow scraper and the umbrella, because those won't fit. So when I go to get the new car, all I will have to do is carry the crate, the umbrella, and the snow scraper thingie into the new car and be on my way. Yay.
Also, moved the AC into the coat closet, and emptied a couple of boxes of clothes that I had never gotten around to unpacking. Some of it is winter stuff which will be useful shortly and some was summer stuff which is no longer useful. The summer stuff I put back into the box and stuffed under the bed and the winter stuff I put back into the boxes until I have time to launder it. :P
So then we went to lunch at Panera, which was pretty yummy. I had a Chicken-Avocado-Cobb Salad which was good and Brother had a Chicken Salad Sandwich with Almonds and Grapes which he's had before and liked. Then we drove past a Chevy dealer which was closed but had some Sparks on the lot so Brother could see it. We kept our eyes open to see if there were any on the road, but didn't see any. There was one in a parking lot, which I had once before seen on the street when I had driven past that particular apartment complex.
After that, we went back home to retrieve a dish and a Tupperware container that I had never returned to Mum because they were storing science projects in the fridge. (I did wash them out first) And then we went to the County Zoo.
You might remember if you've been paying attention to my ramblings, that I was thinking about going to this zoo like a year ago and suggested it to Brother back in the Spring, but then we never actually went. Well, today we went. It's a small zoo, but it had some interesting animals like tapirs and mountain lions and bobcats and ocelots and a bunch of monkeys and alligators and birds and turtles and also a small farm with cows and donkeys and pigs and goats. There is also a little train that goes around, which we did not ride.
I took some photos so I might actually post them at some point in the future. Maybe.
Anyway after that we went back to Mom's and had meatloaf for dinner. Brother had gone down to the corner liquor store to talk with some people he knows who work there and one of the customers he knows came in with some corn on the cob. His son had gone to a farm and picked some so he was just handing it out and decided to give some to my brother. So we had fresh corn on the cob also with dinner, which was yummy and I don't get to eat often. I prefer corn on the cob to a bowl full of kernels. :P
Left there about eight and drove back home, took a shower, wrote this blog, plan to now play some games on my phone and go to sleep.
Frank sent me a message on facebook warning me to wear comfortable shoes tomorrow because Matt wants us all to go take another field trip to the store to write down UPC numbers. He said he was going to wear sneakers. Well, my sneakers aren't really really comfortable, but the only other really really comfortable shoes I have are my sandals and I'm afraid that then my feet would freeze. I will have to search through my other flats and see what is wearable, because I don't want to wear sneakers or sandals.
Yay for Mondays.

Hope y'all had a good weekend and your upcoming week is not horrible.

wowzers...
@xplorrn - lol yup. I used to have a high school math teacher who would play that album during math tests. He was awesome. Of course they fired him the year after I graduated. :P
I always keep enough "just in case" stuff in my car that I could live out of it if my house burned down.
I have a bag where's there is two changes of clothes, car gear, two MREs (Meals Ready to Eat), and spare cash.
sushi...I've been watching this show on TLC (yeah, I know, don't even go there) called Breaking Amish. They took 4 young Amish and 1 Mennonite and put them in New York City. It's quite interesting to see how fast they adjust. Anyway the episode tonight featured the group going to eat sushi. Only one of them liked it. Best comment, "I like food that is cooked."
@lanney - I don't do that intentionally, but I probably could. Considering the amount of forgotten sweaters I removed, I at least would be assured of surviving the post-apocalyptic winter.
@Zoz36 - Spare cash is good. I used to have spare cash in random bags and coat pockets and then I'd forget about it until like a year later when I was going through the bag for some other reason and completely forget why there was a twenty in there. Sometimes I'd find stuff like that in my wallet, too, like I'd for some reason stuff cash behind the credit card slots. Haven't done that in a while but maybe I should and then I'd surprise myself later.
@godfatherofgreenbay - remember when TLC stood for "The Learning Channel." I wonder what they want you to think it stands for now. I watched the end of that Amish show once, like the last two minutes for some reason. These two former Amish people were getting married and it was a really simple small wedding and they were talking about how different it was and how they were adapting to their new life and what sorts of values they were going to keep and whatever.
I remember when TLC ran nothing but shows about babies being born. Then for a while I thought TLC stood for The Little (People) Channel because all their shows revolved around little people. Now there's a show about conjoined twins from Minnesota that I once met. I think I've seen that show you're talking about. They were married in an Amish marriage then they left so they wanted to get married again.
I think my current sneakers are partly responsible for my foot pain, which is disappointing. Those were expensive! Although they are starting to show some wear on the inside, and that's generally a sign of shoes needing to be replaced. And probably my feet being messed up made the shoes wear out faster, which then just makes my feet more messed up... I'm sure there's a vicious cycle somewhere.
I've been trying to remember if I've ever seen a bobcat in real life. Was there one at the Omaha Zoo? Perhaps the zoo I went to in Panama? I have no idea. I think it's a terrible shame if it turns out I haven't, because bobcats are pretty darn awesome.
I hope work continues to go well--your vacation was shorter than mine. I am still on vacation time and getting up very late---6:15 a.m. today.
