Three, at some length
1. Last night, a viciously ginormous insect came into my apartment. I noticed it because the cat was chasing it. I was in the bedroom, doing some sort of computer related thingie, and then the cat came in, batting at some large object in the air. I freaked. The cat chased it under the bed and then behind it, where I finally caught sight of how HUGE the ugly thing was.
I ran into the kitchen and got the can of RAID from under the sink. Positive thing, I went into the kitchen at night and did not freak about THAT.
Also grabbed the broom. Returned to the bedroom and sprayed the shit out of the insect. It ran under the baseboard heater. I banged on the heater, it ran out. It ran behind the coffee-table-nightstand-thingie. I banged some more. It finally came out into the open. I beat the shit out of it with the broom. It actually was somewhat incapacitated by that. I went and got the vacuum and sucked the ugly thing up. Then commenced calming breathing exercises.
A short while later, the coffee-table-nightstand-thingie collapsed for the third time. The top of it is some sort of marble or something, very heavy stone, and the little ledges of wood that hold it up had already broken in several places - caused once by my crawling over it (ouch) and once by the cat climbing on it - and I'm pretty sure that unless someone volunteers for carpentry work it's now useless.
Somehow managed to sleep after that.
2. During the night, the following interesting things occurred.
- the cat returned to the bedroom. Either the banging of the broom or the running of the vacuum cleaner had scared him off, but he returned. As usual, once I turned off the light, he climbed up on the end of the bed and commenced staring out the window.
- Also as is normal, I had some trouble falling asleep. At some point, I heard a noise - probably the neighbors walking upstairs - and woke up, since I was sort of still in panic, adrenaline-rush type mode after the above incident. I sat up and saw that the cat was now curled up in the corner where he is usually sitting. So perhaps he actually does sleep at the end of the bed sometimes. A few times I have awakened in the night and seen him still sitting there, and other times I don't see him, but maybe because he was sleeping. I'm also thinking that when I get a normal, real adult bed instead of the twin-sized with the lumpy mattress I got when I was 4 or 5, he might actually spend more time on the bed. But as it is now there really isn't much room for both of us, and so sometimes I kick him, or come close to kicking him, when I roll over, which he doesn't like.
- Had a dream. I was at a supermarket with Coworker Kathy, and we both had the intention of doing some shopping, perhaps for ourselves I think? Anyway, while most people just walk up one aisle, then down the next, then up, then down, oh skip the baby aisle because I have no babies, up, then down, in the dream Kathy took the world's most zig-zagged, random path through the store. And then we ended up in the floral section, which really had a greenhouse attached, and she said, "Oh, I know a secret," and slipped through some door that I'm pretty sure was supposed to be for employees only, and found some other stuff back there that she wanted. I don't remember what I purchased or anything, only that I was certain I was going to forget to buy something because of the crazy way we were traveling.
- Salesperson guy called me from the Chevy dealer to ask if I was interested still in getting the Spark because they were having some great deals. Okay, technically it was 9 AM when he called, but since I was still sleeping I count this as night time. He left a voice mail because there was no way I was answering the phone. I found out later, when I happened to drive past the dealership, that they are having a construction sale.
3. Weekend plans! I was originally supposed to have a doctor's appointment on the 27th, and then planned to have off also on the 28th just because. The doctor's office called me this week to ask me to reschedule because the doctor is going to be away. Oddly enough this happened with my last appointment in July. So I moved the appointment to THIS Thursday, so I now have an upcoming long weekend. Yay. :)
Also, talked to Mum today and she agreed to go with me to the dealership next Saturday to talk about financing and such. Sunday, brother agreed to come up and help me to take my AC out of the bedroom window, since I'm pretty sure I won't need it much more. Today, we cleaned a bunch of crap out of my car. Found a bunch of sweaters I forgot I owned and also my fall/spring type jacket, which I washed in Mum's machine.
Tomorrow, laundry, some cleaning, and maybe I'll finally post some Dragon Story Fiction here.
For now, bedtime. Whee.
- the cat returned to the bedroom. Either the banging of the broom or the running of the vacuum cleaner had scared him off, but he returned. As usual, once I turned off the light, he climbed up on the end of the bed and commenced staring out the window.

Poor kitty.
Did you make out with Michael Cain in your dream?
@leaflesstree - Um, that was hardly a sexy dream.
@leaflesstree - I have sex dreams quite frequently. I wonder how much the average person has sexy dreams?
cats are pretty resilient, I usually know when bugs are in my house because both of them go running after it and sit around staring at it. The last two nights I've had bugs creep into the house. Two nights ago it was a silverfish and last night it was a box elder. The cats don't like it when I kill the bug because they like the snack.
@randaness - I'm sure that SOMEONE has done studies on it. Probably Kinsey, at least.
@godfatherofgreenbay - Squirt had a lot of fun chasing flies, but didn't quite know what to do with them afterward. Once I saw he batted one to the ground, and, thinking it was dead, left it alone. But it wasn't dead, it was just not flying, and it crawled right by him without him noticing. Then he was surprised a few minutes later when it was flying again past his nose. Unless maybe he let it live so he could keep playing with it, but otherwise it seems to me that he doesn't have the killing instinct where insects are confused.
yes, cats love to play with their prey. My cats love chasing flies and catching them and then letting them go so they can chase them again. I hate how they did that a few times when I had mice.
