• Blah blah

  Ugh, TGIF, man. Sure didn't feel like this was a short week. :P

   

  So work this week was okay. On Tuesday, Kathy was supposed to move desks and Transfer Lady was supposed to come over, but that didn't happen because apparently you now need Senior Executive VP sign off to transfer phone extensions. So it finally happened this afternoon.
  

  I spent about an hour with the Transfer Lady explaining some really really basic sort of stuff, and chatting, because half of training is often just getting to know the other person. I actually sort of already know Transfer Lady - she's transferring from another part of the department, so it's not like I've never met her - but I've never really worked directly with her. But she seems smart, especially considering she's coming from one of what we'd call the "monkey-punch" departments - she actually knows how to think, and she's had a few years with the company in various departments (I didn't realize how long her background was until we were talking today about past jobs and how we got to where we are) so I think she'll do okay. When I first heard that people from that monkey-punch department might be applying to work in my section, I thought that Transfer Lady might be the best choice, if I had to pick one of them. I don't know too many of them, but they have the mentality of "do what's on the form and then go home." Which is good if you're a monkey-puncher, but not so great for what we need.
  

  Anyway, the first few weeks will be annoying with the training and the questions, but I'm pretty optimistic, even though I'm kind of annoyed to lose Kathy. :P
  

   

  In other news, I was reading some online car reviews this evening, because I really would like to make a decision on the car thing. The reviews of the Chevy Spark were underwhelming, but the reviewers were, I thought, missing the point of the car. For instance, one review complained about the lack of cargo space. Um, if I wanted cargo space, do you think I'd be in the market for a Spark? Some of the commenters on the last review (motor trend's website) also thought the car was ugly, which was kind of harsh, I thought. It's unique looking, but I wouldn't say it's ugly. Oh, you want a link? HERE is the Motor Trend review, which was the most comprehensive of those I read.
  

  I don't think it's ugly. The green one (Jalapeno is the name of the color, according to the salesperson) is the one one I drove, the basic, extra cheap model. Even the more expensive versions are pretty cheap, though. The first comment is from an actual owner who seems to like it, and he mentions that it gets better gas mileage than the specs claim - which is another of the downsides the official reviews mentioned. And while this is the first year it's offered in the US, it seems it's been selling overseas for a few years, so it's not as brand new (and untested) as originally though.
  

  So I think I might just go with the Spark. I liked the Yaris, but it's more expensive, and I was unimpressed with the Mazda 2 enough that I don't really remember much about it aside from the color (which was pretty cute, kind of an aqua flavor). I'll probably discuss it and think about it for another week or so, but it's a thought.
  

   

  In other news, there is no other news. I really just wrote this blog to express my frustration with car reviewers who want small, compact cars to have cargo space. Seriously. What?
  

   

  Today was a typical Friday. I was majorly bored at work except for the points where I was frustrated or annoyed. I stayed a little late to catch up on some work and then was talking with Gail since it was only the two of us in the building, basically, except the cleaning crew who comes in to empty the garbage cans after 5:30 or so. Then I went to Starbucks and had some banana bread and wrote a couple of pages. My hands have been really aching lately, can't imagine how much more it will suck once the weather gets colder. :P
  

  Tomorrow will probably be a typical Saturday. I will sleep too late, do nothing, go to Mom's, have dinner, drive back home.
