  • Okay, here are some words

One day, I promise, I will get around to posting the rest of my vacation photos. But not today. Today I am too lazy.

I was going to type some things here but I realized I don't have much to say. No, seriously. Work has been only boringly frustrating instead of insanely stressful. Transfer Lady (whom I suppose I will have to come up with a cute nickname for her) was supposed to, well, Transfer yesterday, and Kathy was supposed to Transfer out. Well, that didn't happen. Turns out that the Voice Operations people, who control the in-house telephones, supposedly now need sign off from the Senior VP of HR of all people in order to transfer phones from one desk to another. Which never used to be the case.

Needless to say the Senior VP of HR hasn't bothered to approve the request. Tuesday, Kathy moved most of her stuff to the new desk, then had to leave early for chemo. She came back in today to find that nothing had happened. She didn't want to move the computer because she wouldn't have a desk. Also, her new Boss Man (a fairly nice guy who I don't know very well at all) came over Tuesday morning, asked her how she was doing, and said he was too swamped to train her. Frank told me Transfer Lady was supposed to be coming over Tuesday afternoon and I should be prepared to train her, but that never happened. Plus side of this is that at least Kathy is still doing work that otherwise will shortly become my responsibility. Last week Matt told me that I needed to give one of my Major Things to someone else, and I asked him who I was supposed to give it to and he said something about it being my responsibility to make sure that the New People know how to do the things that they need to be able to do.

If he's talking about Clueless, that will take a miracle. But in all seriousness, neither of these Major things is something that I can just give to somebody and walk away. It will require them to constantly ask me for assistance and such, to the extent that I'm better off just doing it myself. I had the thought afterward that I suppose I can give the one thing to the Transfer Lady, since it has to do with billing and knowing what warehouses do, which is something I figure she might have some knowledge of, being as she's been in the Company, as opposed to the New People, since they're not as knowledgeable in that sort of thing. The New Dude has actually been somewhat reliable, if only because when I give him something to do he does it fast, or at least faster than Clueless (which isn't saying much), but I'm not quite clear on how much he really understands. Doing is easy. Understanding is hard. I think understanding is important, but a lot of people don't have that mindset, and so either don't even realize that they don't understand, or don't care that they don't understand, because at least they know how to do the task they've been given.

But anyway, that's work and work is work. In other news, I finished reading books 1-4 of Game of Thrones. There is a book 5, which I haven't downloaded yet because I need to read my library book first and I haven't. I worked a bunch on my Untitled Dragon Story on Friday and some on Sunday, but have been distracted from writing anything further. I did a bit of drawing and then I did some drawing on the computer. The cat is doing well, and I have discovered it is fun to play Cat Fishing, where I just take a string (okay, it's a discarded, knotted piece of laundry rope) and slide it across the floor quickly for him to chase, which he seems to like. I experimented with tying a toy mouse to the rope for him to chase, but he was more interested in the rope than the mouse.

I stopped at a pet store today on the way home, because I have been thinking about getting him a tree type climbing thingie, but the ones they had, though smaller than those at PetSmart, were still kind of expensive. I did get him a second scratching mat thingie and also a mat to put next to the litter box that helps to keep paws clean. (Right now he just rubs his feet on the side of the box, which I suppose works, but it makes all this noise). Also discovered that this store does sell his cat food, but I will have to check to see if PetSmart is cheaper. I think they might be, or maybe they just were last time because it was on sale. Anyway, about the tree climbing thingie, Mum said she might have a wood-working pattern somewhere to make one, which would probably be cheaper than buying one, assuming she ever got around to actually making it, because there are a lot of woodworking projects she had not finished, and even more she has never started.

In other news, it has been raining, until this afternoon when it stopped. Across the street from my apartment complex is a National Guard Armory, and they are having a carnival right now? so there is a ferris wheel. I can see it when I step out of my apartment, it is all lit up for the evening. Last night I thought, "Yeah, what I really want to do in the rain is ride on a giant electrical spinny thing that goes up to the sky," but at least today it is nicer. There is always something going on at the Armory, I think to welcome back troops or send them off or something and sometimes there is this random, very tiny group holding war protest signs. Seriously, it's like five old guys holding signs about how many have died and how there should be no wars and somehow it's the president's fault. Every time I see them, I think, "Yes, okay, but why are you there today?" and I think it's just they go stand on the corner whenever they feel like it.

I haven't thought any further about the car buying thing. I didn't sleep well Monday into Tuesday so last night I went home and went to bed relatively early after doing a few mindless things, which helped my brain function immensely today. I haven't been to the gym yet this week so I think I will try to squeeze that in tomorrow. Last night I also went food shopping because I had almost nothing to eat. That reminds me that I have a nectarine I meant to eat.

So I think I'll go do that now. In other news, happy hump day folks and enjoy the rest of this week.

EDIT: Update, the nectarine was very juicy but not exceptionally sweet. But still okay. Yay for fruit.

I got my cats this scratching hut thing but I can't remember where I got it.  They usually sleep there.  The thing I'm surprised at is I got this scratching pad at Walmart on a whim.  It was $5.  I was putting it together and by that I mean taking it out of the box and putting catnip in it.  They were fighting over who could use it.  They now sleep on that at night.

@godfatherofgreenbay - Yeah, Squirt loves his scratch pad thing. It's double sided and he basically shredded the first side, so I flipped it over. He often just lays on it. Only downside is that it's basically just corrugated cardboard and now there are little pieces of it everywhere. I don't know where he sleeps. Under the bed or under the armchair mostly, although sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night and he's lounging at the foot of my bed.

yeah my little monsters wake me up with their scratching but I've noticed that they aren't pulling the carpet off my stairs any more.  I bought them one of those Emery Cat scratch pads.  They only use one side of it no matter how I turn it and they've actually worn off all the emery part of it and I too keep finding bits of cardboard.
