  • things I am thinking of and don't want to forget

So I just finished taking a shower, and while I was showering I was of course having some great ideas and thoughts. And then as I got out of the shower I thought, "I should write some of these ideas down or I will forget them."

And so now here I am sharing them with all of you because, well, why not.

These are not interesting and earth-shattering ideas, by the way, they're just more to-dos.

Yesterday I went to Kohl's with the intention of purchasing some capris and maybe some pajamas. The nightgown thingie I ordinarily sleep in is sort of old and falling apart. There are these buttons down the front that won't stay buttoned (I actually have the very top safety-pinned together) which doesn't bother me ordinarily but would be rather awkward to be seen in whilst vacationing with my family. I have some pajama pants in case I need them - it gets cold during the night still in Maine, but no worn-out t-shirts or anything. So I was thinking of buying one of those nightshirts that's basically a ginormous t-shirt, and hopeful without any vaguely suggestive words on it like "SEXY BEAST" that it might be awkward to wear around the family.

Well, I completely forgot about the pajamas until I got home, and there weren't any capris worth buying, but I did get a short-sleeved polo shirt, a pair of pants on clearance (I'm pretty sure they'll fit, I don't try things on in the store, too lazy) and a dress. So in the near future I was thinking of going to Kmart, but instead today I went to the Apple Store because I needed new headphones. The Apple Store turned out to be insanely busy, because, you know, it was 6:30 on a Wednesday night, so I always go and purchase new Apple products in the middle of the week, after work.

But anyway, now I still need to go to Kmart, so maybe I will do that tomorrow.

I also had the thought today that I would ask my dad if he had a map. I like having maps. Uncle #4 is going to loan us his GPS to get to the house in Maine. Apparently if you put in the street address, it takes you to the bottom of the road and thinks you're there, but you're really not. So you have to actually put in the coordinates. Well I fiddled around with my GPS and it doesn't seem like you can actually enter coordinates, so we shall have to borrow. But anyway I would like to have a map, and I know my dad likes maps, so I figured I would call him and see if he'd already purchased one and if so I wouldn't go and buy one.

I really kind of want an all-New-England type map, maybe a small book of maps if such a thing exists - so that I can sort of track how we're driving all the way from Jersey to Maine. Which is going through quite a few states. I'm not sure how exactly we're going, but I do know that Uncle #4 said that he doesn't take I-95. I think he takes 91? I was looking at the Google map and there's a bunch of ways to go, and if I know my Dad he'll probably only partially follow the directions that Uncle is given. Since we are taking Dad's car I figure he might do more driving than Mom. And since we're taking Dad's car, I might even get to drive. Yay. But anyway often on family road trips I get to be the navigator which as I learned from my moving adventure is probably for the best. :)

So anyway then I had the thought that Brother wanted to go to Barnes & Noble to get this one car magazine, Rides, which comes out once a month except for when they have two-month issues. He had wanted to go last weekend but I was not in the mood to walk around a bookstore even for a short period of time. So I figure that when I go to Mom's Saturday evening, we'll go to B&N and then I will look at the maps. Assuming Dad didn't get one already.

And then I had the thought that it would be great if brother has this magazine because it might be pretty boring in Maine. There are only 4 TV stations in the cabin. Dad and Brother often spend most of their evenings watching TV and so there's an increased risk of us killing one another if there's no television or internet. I do plan to bring my laptop, and Mum might bring hers, but there's only so much entertainment on a laptop without internet. (I also plan to bring my Kindle and maybe get some writing done, but that's more of a solitary activity that will only help me). So I thought that maybe I should ask Mom if she thinks it'd be a good idea to bring some board games. I have Clue (which Brother is terrible about but actually can play and likes to play) and this other game called TriBond, and Mom has Scrabble at home which we all like to play even if Brother isn't too good at it.

So I have to remember to call and ask her about that.

And then I was thinking of all the things I need to remember to bring. Clothes of course, but also the bathroom stuff, which I thought of because my shampoo bottle is almost empty and I don't think I have another in the closet although maybe I do. And toothpaste and toothbrush and razor and hair brush and hair gunk. And pillow because there's no pillow for the futon. And my elephant, Sam, because I like to have him nearby. :)

And bathing suit because we are going to go to this Lake and there might be swimming there (we're not sure).

And probably a lot of other things that I'm not remembering but will come to me and so hopefully I will remember to write them down.

    Anyway.

Today was Wednesday. Two more days of the Week Without Frank. So far things are going well. I have only been asked a few stupid questions, and there was only one minor crisis-that-wasn't-a-crisis because I actually knew what to do(!) I managed to teach something to the New Guy today that I have been meaning to teach him (or someone) for the last year. Kathy made it through Tuesday with only a little help from me, so presuming she is feeling well next Tuesday she'll be fine.

Okay, I suppose I'm done now with this blog. I'm going to go and play some games on my phone and then go to sleep. Happy Hump Day everybody! :)

PS: Sorry no camels this week. I was lazy.

I can usually find clothes that I like and that fit at Kmart. I'll bet you can find a nice nightshirt thingy there.

If you stop at the first rest area after crossing state lines, you can usually get free maps for the state. I like maps, too. I took a geography class for teachers sponsored by the National Geographic Society and they gave us tons of free materials, including this HUGE atlas of the world. So cool.

Hm, you are not prepared for romantic night clothes are you?

The navigator part depends upon various GPS. Some take forever to warm up. Furthermore in hilly areas they are notoriously off track.
Usually I get map quest directions and familiarize myself with the areas traveled. It is also good to plan for various detours like stopping for gas, points of interest and if going thru cities planning for detours.
My pda has voice recording, memo note taking and a calendar to mark certain dates. I suppose a standard journal would be nice to write stuff down.
I have been awful at board games. It has been a long while since folks around me want to play scrabble and various other games. You should add this game playing to your dating preference.

The "Sexy Beast" shirt would be worse if it was a pair of pants and those words were written across the butt.  I never understood the appeal of those articles of clothing for women because you know people are going to stare at your butt to read the words and most of the time it's going to be fat guys who you don't want reading your butt.

My thoughts in the shower today were all about the tv show Dallas.

Will you have cell phone reception? You can always text me if you're feeling bored or murderous.

  • Zoz36

Yeah, any time I go some where for more than a few days I pack more than a few things to keep my sanity. My PSP with plenty of movies and four or five books. And plenty of cash,

@DMMeyer - I like Kmart. I used to live in an area where they were pretty scarce, but since I've moved, I've been there more often. Target generally has clothes that are too young for me, and I won't go to Walmart unless someone ties me up and carries me in, but Kmart seems to have a nice mix. Also shoes. I did get a nice shirt and a pair of shorts, too. :)

Yeah, we've gotten the free maps in the past, but I kinda want something before we go, you know? Geography class sounds awesome. I took a geography class in college but it was more about learning about the people than the land. I wanted to learn about the lakes, rivers, mountains, you know, geographical features. :P

@PPhilip - haha, no, not at all ready for romantic nights. I think I would look silly in one of those silky lace things. :P

My GPS so far has seemed to be pretty accurate. The only time I had an issue with it was when I went to Philadelphia, and it thought I was a block behind where I was. Since every street is one way, it would constantly tell me to turn left down a street that did not allow that. Eventually I learned to look at the map on the screen rather than just listening to the voice, because then you can see that the voice is slow. Uncle is supposed to give us good directions that will not take too long or be too boring.

@godfatherofgreenbay - lol. yeah, I've never understood the appeal of having things written on one's derriere. And it seems that none of what might be written there would be suitable for a family-friendly environment. :P

@randaness - I am told the cell reception is spotty whilst at the cabin, better when in town or elsewhere. And my cell service in the past has been worse than spotty. Although I do have the iPhone now so maybe that might improve things? If I text you every time I have a murderous thought I would probably be spending a lot of the vacation texting. Which would make my mom make this snide comment about how texting is evil, which would just up the amount of texting.

@Zoz36 - my brother has a PSP and plays with it constantly. He will probably play that through 90% of the drive. Also he has a travel Wheel of Fortune game that's about the same size which he likes to play. Might not be a bad idea to get him some word searches also. Road trips are fun. Plus side, Dad's car has satellite radio.

The more I see women wear clothing with writing across the butt the more I am tempted to get a pair of too tight sweat pants and right disco stick down the midsection
