  • To-Do (Vacation) List

I will attempt to make this blog relatively short because I am pretty tired. Probably because of the fact that I slept most of the day Saturday and more than I should have on Sunday, I was not tired when it was time to go to bed Sunday night, and then it was very hard to fall asleep. I kept waking up and even when I was sleeping it didn't feel like good sleeping if you know what I mean. I was just getting the hang of this sleeping thing when the alarm went off and I had to get up and go to work.

It wasn't as bad as it could have been. I expected to be extra insanely exhausted by 5, but it was okay. First day of Frank's Vacation Week has gone okay so far. I spent half the day doing things with spreadsheets. First, printed out ten copies of a spreadsheet and then realized it had an error so had to print out ten more copies. Plus ten copies of two other spreadsheets. Then gave them to Matt so he could have his meeting, and turns out that there were only 4 people in the meeting. Call me "Tree Murderer." Sigh.

So then Matt says, "What are you working on today," which I had no idea because from the time I walked in he said, "Print spreadsheets!" and so I hadn't even yet figured out what else there was to do. Also, Kathy asked me about a bazillion questions that she should probably already know the answer to, and probably does but just wanted to double check to see what I thought. Also she blamed me for the fact that she was sneezing a lot yesterday and felt pretty crappy today, because it's all my fault for going to work sick on Thursday and Friday.

Anyway, I then spent another few hours making some formulas for another spreadsheet so that Matt could analyze what it meant. And then I called this nice lady at the tag printing company in Arkansas (and they sound like Arkansas) to ask her a question. And I did some other stuff. And then after lunch Matt called the nice tag-printing company lady and asked another question and also we talked some more about some other useless things. And I got some random stupid questions that I probably should have forwarded to one of the New People because they were that sort of mindless blah.

At last, the day was over. I had to stop at the library to return a Library book. I started (at last) to read the novel Baudolino yesterday. The first chapter was hilarious. It seems this will be a pretty funny novel, so perhaps I will finish it this week. I located my Kindle this evening and plugged it in because I hadn't used it in a while and it was dead. I have a couple of books I want to download on to that before vacation.

And that, 5 paragraphs into this blog, brings me to the real thing that I wanted to talk about: All the stuff I need to do before vacation.

The plan is to leave from Mom's on Sunday morning, which means I need to be there on Saturday evening (bye, Squirt!) with all my stuffs. I still have no idea what we're going to do while in Maine, other than visiting the Lake and me doing a bunch of reading (and maybe even some writing?) and trying very hard not to kill my family. No guarantees.

So, before leaving for vacation, I need to do some stuff. What do I need to do? Well, let me attempt to sort of get my thoughts in order here, which is the real purpose of this entry.

Well I need to get together what clothes I am bringing, of course. Uncle #4 (the owner of the Maine House) said the weather was in the mid 80s last week while they were there, cool enough that it was comfortable most of the time, although there was one day that he wished they had AC. The house has a bunch of ceiling fans and box fans so usually it's okay, and it gets cooler at night, but it's still August so there's that.

Anyway along the lines of clothing I was thinking I should buy another pair of capris because I currently only have two. I've been wearing skirts to work almost every day for the last month, but that's not really great for being in the middle of nowhere on vacation, so while I might bring one skirt I won't wear them often. So this means a trip to Clothing Store one evening this week. Or Saturday, but Saturday will probably be Do Laundry day so I have clean stuff to bring.

Also Gail has to come by one evening to attempt to meet the cat. Last time she came by, he hid in the couch the whole time and was not interested in saying hello. But she will come by and see where I keep the food and how much I feed him and stuff like that. I will have to come up with some sort of souvenir to get her from Maine as a thank you for keeping the cat alive. :)

There is probably more to be done that I am not thinking about. Oh, right, I need to go to the bank before we leave because I rarely have cash (I have currently about 2 singles in my wallet) or if I do I don't have much, and it's useful to have cash when traveling. Especially with my parents because we will do things like go out to dinner and then everyone has to chip in but OOPS I have no cash...dun, dun, DUN.

Well, not really. But it doesn't look awesome if you know what I mean. So, a-banking I must go.

    Did I really just write "a-banking?" O.o

Yeah, I'm tired. Think I'll go to sleep soon.

You're so cute.  Plus you just reminded me that I have to find my phone-charger cord.  People like me to have my blasted phone with me.

I slept for about 14 hours yesterday and 12 on Saturday.  While that may seem excessive it wasn't because I only had about 2 hours of sleep on Friday and then yesterday I was pretty sick but after the long sleep I woke up feeling like 1375 bucks.

Yeah, I hear you about things to do before going on vacation. Which is why I only take four day weekends. It has to be an event, like visiting someone I haven't seen in a few years, before I take a vacation.

you said a-banking and you said singles.  is this an odd way to say dollar bill?  or i say ones. singles is perfectly fine, of course. i just thought it was unusual. it doesn't matter how ones says it, i never have them either.

is there an odd run on the state of maine?  because i think several people are talking about going to maine.

squirt will be fine.  he's flexible.  and i'm excited about your vacation.

@lanney - Are you like my mother? She doesn't bring her cell phone with her when she leaves the house. So then you call her and she's not home and you call her cell and she doesn't have it with her. SIGH. Actually, she's gotten a little better at this. But she still doesn't take it to my grandmother's and it seems like half the time I call her she's gone over there.

@godfatherofgreenbay - I slept a healthy amount last night, and woke actually feeling somewhat refreshed. Wow. I don't know how to put a dollar amount on how I feel, but 1,375 bucks seems okay. Glad you feel better, unless your normal going rate is in the 10 thousands, in which case I guess 1375 would be pretty cheap and crappy.

@Zoz36 - I don't mind vacations. I won't like the recovery the week after, because there will be a lot of catch-up to do. But I'm glad I'm going kind of far, because I feel like if I'm going to take a week off work I ought to go a decent distance from home.

@promisesunshine - Might be unusual. I used to work retail and when the cashiers needed change they'd say they needed singles. One day a girl said she needed ones and another supervisor type person I was working with said, "ones? You mean singles?" like she was wrong and she didn't understand what that word meant. But then I have always worked with unusual people.

I haven't heard of anyone else going to Maine. I don't know what there is to do in Maine except eat lobster, which I am not going to be near the ocean so I probably won't do much of, or hunt moose, which I don't plan to do. Uncle said while he was there last week he didn't see many animals at the house. Saw more in his backyard in Jersey. I am hoping to see moose, but I suppose it's not likely. Oh well.

  • lanney

@leaflesstree - I nearly always take my phone..cause it just stays in my purse and I don't look at it for a week until it starts beeping to tell me it's dying.

  • leaflesstree

@lanney - lol yes that used to be me, also. I would forget about it and then someone would text or call me and I'd not see it until the next morning when I looked at it while I was making sure that I had it with me in my bag.

  • godfatherofgreenbay

well everyone usually says they feel like a million bucks after a nice sleep but I felt that cheap because my joints are so bad lately.

  • promisesunshine

@leaflesstree - thinking.  i worked retail a lot of years too.  maybe it's a jersey thing.  or i have a terrible memory (which is true)

  • randaness

I'm trying to fit "a-banking" into the lyrics of a Christmas carol, but I haven't come up with anything yet. I guess I just need to try harder.

  • leaflesstree

@randaness - seems like it should fit in with the lords a-leaping or something. I mean, because money is such a part of Christmas nowadays.

  • randaness

@leaflesstree - Oh, I didn't even think of that one! I was stuck on "Here We Come A-Wassailing."

  • leaflesstree

@randaness - "Here we come A-Ba-anking...." yeah I don't know what would come after that. I can see why you were stuck.
