  • pencils and ponderings

I realized a few weeks ago that I hadn't been drawing in a while. Like most of my many hobbies, I pursue drawing in cycles: for a bit I am very interested and drawing a lot, and then for a while I am not. Same with music and sewing and writing (though I'm trying to be more regular with the writing) and I'm sure there's some other stuff I enjoy doing but rarely actually do.

Anyway, time I remedied the drawing drought, so here are some things I drew. With pencils.

This is apparently entitled "random lady" and I drew it over a month ago.

Generally speaking I like to draw girls/women in flowy dresses. I think in a past life I was a fashion designer. I think I like drawing the dresses more than the girls sometimes. Anyway, I think I was trying to go for a delicate sort of look on the sleeves, dunno how well that comes across in the scan.

I didn't give a name to this one (or a date, which I only do sometimes). I have been trying (emphasis on trying) to draw pretty girls in pretty dresses doing something other than standing around looking pretty. So she's sitting. There.

Didn't date or name this one either, oh well. I like the ruffles and the dress design but her head is funny shaped, I think. :P

I called this one "sunshine" and drew it on 3/16. In case you were wondering. The shading/lighting effect comes out better in the scan than in the actual drawing. Yay.

This one is entitled "worried," and I think I was trying to draw it from above. Usually I don't mess around with perspective that much because when I try, I fail. But there you have an experiment.

I think I posted a photo I took of this one a while back. Here's the actual scan. I drew this a week or two ago, I think. It seems very rough to me, could use some polishing. Maybe now that it's scanned I'll mess with it in photoshop and see what happens.

dragon sketch. I know I posted a photo of this before, but there it is again. So there. :P

I didn't title or date this one, but for the purposes of naming the file it's called "peasant," because she looks like a plain sort of peasant girl.

Drew this two or three days ago (or more? I lose time easily these days). I originally thought, "sexy boudoir" when I was drawing it (hence the elaborate corset) but somehow it morphed through princess and into gypsy? And so there you go. I like the dress design, but her head is too big. :P

Yesterday's drawing. Two girls in a row with silver hair because I cannot find my brown pencil. Neither the half-used one nor the relatively new one I distinctly remember purchasing at some fancy art store a while back. I suppose I will have to buy another one. I don't really know what my intent was with the dress design here. A fish net? Your guess is as good as mine. ::shrug::

Today's drawing, which I actually don't hate. The scribbles near the bottom say "magical girl" in Japanese (unless I spelled it wrong. Can never remember where the 'u' goes...).

I used to draw a lot of magical girls back in the day, so I thought I'd try again today. Also, I tried something a little different with the line work. First I drew it in pencil, then I went over that with pen, and then I erased the pencil. THEN I colored. Usually I draw and color everything and then go back over with the pen. I think the lines came out a bit cleaner this way, dunno why I never tried it before. Oh wait, yes I do. Because the pencil lines smudge when I'm erasing them.

Well, that's enough pretty girls (and a dragon) to tide you over for another month or two, I thinks.

Tomorrow, the most random playlist ever. If you haven't yet (and you want to), give me a number between 1 and 3,440 and I'll play you a song. If you have, I'll ignore your future attempts or maybe just pick one at random.

Be forewarned, a great number of songs in my iTunes are either a) awful or b) in Japanese.

    laughing
